Racing for a Cause!

Firefighters Burn Institute~

Team Drake Racing is proud to announce our partnership with the Firefighters Burn Institute! This is a great local orginization that donates not only to Burn Survivors that are Firefighters but to the general public and has helped start one of the nations top burn centers at the U.C. Davis Hospital! Team Drake Racing learned about this awesome organization a couple years ago when we donated a car to them. We plan to help raise money at races and to attend special events.

Here is some info about the Firefighters Burn Institute from their About page-

In 1972, a jet airplane attempting to take off from Sacramento Executive Airport, crashed into a crowded Farrell’s ice cream parlor, killing 22 people and burning many others. A Sacramento firefighter, Gene LaVine, and eight members of his family died in the fiery crash.

Shortly after the crash, Cliff Haskell, a Captain with the Sacramento Fire Department, convinced the Sacramento Area Fire Fighters Local 522 to allow him to begin to work in establishing a specialized burn unit for the area. Cliff began fund-raising campaigns and the Firefighters Burn Institute was formed in December 1973.
