Took her Top Off

Well we went to the races yesterday to watch and help at prairie city in anyway we can! (We also went to spy) but don’t tell anybody. We learned ALOT and our good friends the Desert Dingos Racing had a rough day. They has some major issues with there electrical system and the first two motos they had to putt around to get some points. The third race Aly and I went to go watch and enjoyed our good friend Dave from Indefab getting third place in his first race in his badass trophy truck El Camino! Then it was the class 11 up and to our surprise DDR 1107 took of like a Rocket chasing Meek Racing into the first turn. They went around another turn and they got bumped sending Romy and Jen into a Double Barrel roll taking them out of the race! It was scary seeing it and having experienced a roll or two myself I was worried. We headed to the pits and congratulated Dave on 3rd place and it was soon after that 1107 was towed in and we saw the damages. Thankfully Romy and Jen were ok and joking about it and thankfully VORRA mandated this year Hans devices which saved their necks I am sure. After we loaded up the car on the hauler and away home we went.

As far as today. My good friend Mike Pulskamp came over with his sawsall and we cut the old cage and seats out! Then we took the Top Body off the pan and its a huge relief to get it off! Now to take the motor off and then we are going to blast the car! Exciting weekend!

SOLD SOLD 1 SOLD 2

Well we finally sold the RZR to a young man that lives in Chico. He is looking to convert it from race to play so he has one bad machine! It felt horrible to see it on somebody else truck. The UTV Chapter is closed for good now with TDR and we are now a Class 11 Team. We are always looking for help so if you have any interest and knowledge come give us a hand!

Washed her down!

Well I finally broke down and pulled the VDub out and pressure washed her and all the parts I have with it. I read a tip that if you have a rusted bolt to throw Vinegar on it and I had ONE bolt that wouldn’t budge even with heat! So I took a bottle of vintages and taped it so it dripped all night on this rusty bolt! It worked! Then after pressure washing it I got it off real easy. I think I pulled about 5 gallons of dirt, pine needles and pine comes out of the car. I shop vaced the car and its now ready to be sand blasted (oh yeah I made a sand blaster BTW) and the body is ready to come off. I have been stripping the car as much as I can to make blasting easier. Anyways that’s that.

Sanding the Car down!

Well we got the car home and the first thing I noticed was the paint on the car. Its 5 layers deep and needs to be blasted, sanded, and resprayed. After goofing around with Stripping Agents, Sanding we are hoping to build a sandblaster and get to blasting the car. With us goofing around with sanding and stripping we found out the car is originally yellow. Our goal here at TDR is to make the car as light as possible so taking all the paint will hopefully save us a few pounds. If you have any questions or want to join us and help us get to racing let us know!

New Class 11!

Well my Dad and I left around 7:00am from his house to our good friends Desert Dingo Racing who are based in Gorgeous Santa Cruz CA. After a detour of my dad thinking Santa Cruz was Monterey we finally made the Santa Cruz Highway. If I wasn’t pressed for time I would have loved to gone down to the beach because it was a gorgeous day. When we arrived at DDR Headquarters Jim had the car on the side of his house.

The driveway is a fairly steep gravel driveway with a hook left so we had our work cut out for us. We pushed the car to the grade and found out the car has good breaks so the plan was drop the gate on the trailer and it should roll right on. Riiight. So we roll down the hill backwards and bang…

20130125-153433.jpg Instant stop! Whoops back end doesn’t clear! So we pulled the trailer forward and borrowed the neighbors driveway turn the car around and get it to the gate and then start winching it on the trailer using our Polaris Versa Winch that we got at our friends at Placerville Polaris Tools! This little winch worked amazing and made a tough job easier. After getting the car on the trailer which barely fit we strapped it down and are heading home now! Let me tell you being a Virgin owner of a VW I can’t tell you how cool the attention we are already getting from our car is! This new project for Team Drake Racing is going to be a fun one!
